Certified PCUSA Earth Care Congregation

PCUSA Earth Care Congregations is a structured certification program for developing environmentally “green” Presbyterian churches who strive to be active in earth care  and are stewards of God’s earth. To this end First Presbyterian Cooperstown embraces an Earth Care Pledge and works to complete activities and projects in the fields of worship, education, facilities, and outreach. Matthew 25 Church

Matthew 25:31-46 calls of us to actively engage in the world around us, so our faith comes alive, and we wake up to new possibilities.  The PC(USA) has been called to act boldly and compassionately to see our neighbors through Jesus’ eyes and serve those who are marginalized or in need – people who are hungry, thirsty, naked, sick, imprisoned, strangers, poor or oppressed in other ways and in need of welcoming.

First Presbyterian Church Cooperstown has joined these efforts through work in building congregational vitality, dismantling structural racism, and eradicating systemic poverty. As Presbyterian Christians we are “saved to serve.”  More information about Matthew 25 churches by visiting www.pcusa.org/matthew25.

More Light Presbyterians

More Light Presbyterians is a non-profit organization dedicated to allowing the full participation of LGBTQIA+ people in life, ministry, and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and in society. You are welcome here, and you are loved. We seek to serve Christian communities and center God’s abundance in all we do and all we are.

More Light Presbyterian partners, like First Presbyterian Church Cooperstown, links with over 230 congregations and thousands of individuals in the Presbyterian Church (USA), enabling Presbyterians to lead LGBTQIA+ service and advocacy in communities nationwide. Our congregation has been an official More Light Church for over a decade.

One Home One Future

First Presbyterian Cooperstown has a new banner hanging outside the church.  One Home One Future is a multi-faith 7- year campaign to strengthen vitality, relevance, and community connections across generations in local congregations nationwide. It is a coalition effort of US faith denominations and organizations for visible and collective care by faith leaders to educate, activate and support clergy, congregants, youth, and all spiritual people-progressing beyond climate activists-in meaningful and just climate solutions at the local, regional, and national level.

It is designed to offer fulfilling, positive, and accessible pathways for education, engagement, and action on creation care and just and equitable solutions, no matter if a member of the clergy, lay leader is just getting started or already engaging.

Importantly, One Home One Future calls people of all faiths to stand together and do what they can, when they can, to engage their congregations and communities in caring for a shared and given home, now and for generations to come. We are excited to be a part of this new endeavor.
